Vistage is not like an association or some peer group organizations where anyone can join if they pay their annual dues.

Vistage membership is exclusive and members go through a two-step selection process once it has been determined that the "candidate" meets the initial qualifications. As the board begins to grow in size the existing members often seek leaders from specific industries. At times it can even become a bit competitive when two competitors from the same industry have been nominated.

Members typically hold the position of CEO, president or owner however in some cases managers at a regional or divisional level will be considered. Below are a few other qualifications that we look for in a member.  

Each Chair who leads a Vistage board has different criteria for their board because each board has its own personality. However most Chairs use the following criteria to determine if the individual will make a good board member.
 
1.Understand the importance of having a braintrust of peers who will provide you a "third opinion" and will question your decisions in a care-frontational way. 

2.Realize that your peers could uncover blind spots that will save your business time and money and you will receive continuous learning in order to gain and maintain an edge over your competition

3.Are you ready to be challenged and to grow? Do you want to become a better leader?   

You must be right for Vistage and Vistage must be a good fit for you.
